As student body vice president of DePaul University, I ran a successful campaign in a hotly contested on campus election. I worked with a number of community partners and leaders to effect change both on campus, and in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. These community leaders included precinct leadership within the Chicago Police Department, safety executives at the Chicago Transit Authority, and 43rd Ward Alderman Timmy Knudsen's office.
Both while Vice President and in other previous student body officer roles, I led a number of successful initiatives and gained real world experience. These included:
Advocating for the creation of a University Climate Action Plan
Raising awareness of accessibility issues for students who require self-injections, and adding sharps containers to all campus bathrooms.
As an intern on the communication strategy team at Dallas Area Rapid Transit, I gained valuable experience working in a government agency, and in the public transit industry. While interning at DART, I worked on the Communication Strategy team which pursued initiatives at the direction of the Office of the CEO. Some of my responsibilities included:
Wrote blog content for DARTDaily from the voice of the CEO
Planned signature events such as State of the Agency and the Excellence in Service Awards by conducting site visits and contacting vendors
Managed contact lists in ConstantContact for the CEO's Leading Mobility newsletter
Developed an award narrative for Latinos in Transit's Agency of the Year Award (resulting in DART winning the award)
Coordinated outreach initiatives to celebrity invitees related to the annual DART Roadeo
